NEW STUDENTS

Refund Policy

A non refundable enrolment fee of $50.00 is required to begin the enrolment process.
The remainder of the monies must be paid by a set date for an 6% reduction of the balance. Should you decide to withdraw after paying the balance the College will retain a 10% administration fee. If the withdrawal is after classes begin then there will be no refund. If paying by the month then arrangements must be made with the Director. The monthly payment service is offered but incurs a 4% handling fee on the total fees outstanding. The payments are due on the 15th of each month and if more than two days overdue incur a charge of $1.00 per day until paid.

CANCELLATION

If, after the fees have been paid, the student decides to cancel their enrolment then they will receive a full refund of the above mentioned amount less 10% for administration costs if we are notified before commencement of the course.
If, however, it is after course commencement then there will be no refund unless on medical or humanitarian grounds.

Should the student attend the first lecture and then decide to leave then there will be no refund except in the circumstances described above. If the student has paid up front and decides to withdraw from the course at any stage during the semester, there will be no refund; however, the student will be given an opportunity to complete the course without further payment if within two years of withdrawing. If the student is on the payment plan and decides to withdraw after course commencement then the student is liable for the remainder of the course fees.


CONTINUING STUDENTS

Any student who has attended at least one semester will be governed by this policy.

If an enrolled student decides to withdraw from the College and they have already paid their deposit and/or their fees for the next semester then the College will keep $50 from the amount paid for administration fees providing the student advises the College before the classes are to commence. If the student advises the College after classes commence then the College will retain the total deposit of $150.00 for administration fees. Withdrawal after payment of full fees is governed by the same policy as new students as above.

BEHAVIOUR COMPLAINTS

If a student's behavior on campus or while on a Field Placement is called in to question by the College then that student may be asked by the Director not to attend classes until the matter has been dealt with by the administration. This verbal request will be followed up in writing. The first step in dealing with a student's misconduct is for the College to convene a Behaviour Complaints Board comprised of at least the Director and one other teacher. This Board will decide on a course of action in response to the situation.

The administration will then invite the student to give cause for his/her misconduct with the exception being in the case of criminal proceedings that may be taking place.
Having considered the evidence the Board may dismiss the complaint or caution the student or, if the behavior is found to be serious, the Director may choose to exclude the student from the College. At any time in this process the student may have one support person present with them; either a friend, relative or a student advocate.
In some cases where the behaviour is deemed by the Behaviour Complaints Board to be a threat to staff or other students then the student will be automatically excluded.

STUDENT APPEALS

Appeals Against the Award of a Grade

Students are encouraged to discuss with academic staff their performance in assessment items during a subject.

Where a student believes that an error has been made or an injustice done in respect of the grade awarded for a subject, the student may request a review of the grade. This request:-

I. Must be made in writing;
II. Must state the grounds for the review request
III. Must be lodged with the relevant teacher within 14 days of the official notification of the result to the student.

All requests for review of grade shall be dealt with by the teacher who shall seek the advice of the Director. The outcome of the review must be approved in writing by the Director.

Appeals Against Exclusion

A student whose academic progress or behaviour has been unsatisfactory as set out in the Progress and Exclusion Policy has the opportunity to show cause why exclusion from the course should not be invoked. The grievance policy stated as follows allows provision for this to occur.

Appeals Against Other Academic Decisions

With respect to other academic decisions not included above, where a student believes that an error has been made, an injustice done, or a decision made in the absence of the full facts pertinent to the decision, the student may request that the decision be reviewed. Such decisions may include the outcome of requests for special assessment, or action taken in respect of alleged cheating.

The request must be in writing and must state the grounds for the review. The request should be addressed to the Director who will direct the request to the teacher or officer who is responsible for the decision which is the subject of the review request.

The student will be notified of the outcome of the review request. The final decision is to be taken or approved in writing by the Director.
If a student is dissatisfied with any of the College's decisions then they have the right to invoke the appeals procedure. This procedure states that they must put their grievances in writing to the Director within one week of the initial notification of the decision or at the discretion of the Director.

Upon receiving the appeal the Director must then decide on an appropriate course of action and inform the student within a week of the next steps that will be taking place. This may be another meeting with the student or to call in an external conflict resolution consultant or to convene a panel of teaching personnel. The Behaviour Complaints Board will then make the final decision regarding the appeal.

If after this procedure has been carried out and the student is still not satisfied with the result then the student may consult DET (Department of Employment & Training) as a last resort.

GRIEVANCE PROCEDURE

In an instance where a student is dissatisfied with the nature of the curriculum, the process of teaching, the marking system or any other issue then they can approach the Director on a one to one basis either in person or by letter. If they so choose they may consult with the student body for advocacy. They may have one student present if they so desire when approaching the Director.

If having met with the Director and the student remains unsatisfied then the next course of action is for the student to request in writing for the Director to convene a panel of teaching personnel or to call upon an independent conflict resolution consultant.

If after this procedure has been carried out and the student is still not satisfied with the result then the student may consult The Department of Employment and Training as a last resort.

It is the policy of QUEST COLLEGE that we will meet the needs of individuals, and the community as a whole through the integration of access and equity guidelines. We will ensure that equity principles for all people are implemented through the fair allocation of resources and the right to equality of opportunity without discrimination. We will increase opportunities for people to participate in the vocational education and training system, and in associated decisions which affect their lives. We will implement customer oriented conservation programs and target the specific needs of market segments in enhancing the economic development of the organisation. Our policy is based on the following principles:

" Access for all people to appropriate, quality vocational education and training programs and services

Our policy pertains to all people whom are clients or potential clients. The following are minority groups who are given high priority through our access and equity policy:

" People in Transition and other special groups( i.e. people re-entering the workforce, sole parents, people with literacy issues, the long-term unemployed, and those who have been institutionalised)

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING POLICY

QUEST COLLEGE maintains the practice of Recognition of Prior Learning. Students may have previous training, experience or other qualifications that have already met the standard competencies in a module. This being the case the student may submit such assessments and documentation, as established by the Director, to demonstrate their competencies. If deemed competent in the subject, the student will only be required to pay a percentage of the cost of the subject and will not have to attend class. There is a set fee for the RPL process which decreases depending on the number of RPLs sought by the student.
